Be Myself
Some projects are hard technically, and others are tough emotionally. Be Myself is a project that sits in the latter category!
Be Myself is the story of Lucy, a survivor of domestic violence and sexual abuse. The film follows Lucy's journey to recovery, from failed suicide attempt into refuge housing and through the healing process.
Writing the music for this film was a rewarding experience, even though I had to watch the upsetting material dozens of times whilst scoring the picture. Lucy's resilience is astounding, and watching her climb from the depths of despair into a new life is a humbling experience.
I wrote the music for this short with a focus on the solo piano. One instrumental voice to speak with Lucy - a voice of passion and pain of despair and redemption.
I attended a showing of the film in London at an exhibition of the photography that accompanied the series. It was a moving experience, and the project is one that I'm grateful for having been a part of.
